The Journey to Remembrance
Acrylic on Canvas - 72" x 60"
My life-size World War One commemorative painting, The Journey to Remembrance, was inspired by many journeys: my own, my family, my community, my country and world events during that dark time. A state of peace and hope resonates in the sky’s brilliance as it leads the soldiers forward while the vibrant red poppies colour fade into the distance to mirror those one hundred years. These images form a vision to honour the sacrifices of these soldiers as their spirit lives on by paying tribute to them.
My own personal journey to remembrance started off in a place of naivety and flourishes into being emboldened as an artist to do much more than simply wear a poppy.
My intention is for this image to inspire viewers in their own personal way as they reflect upon their own journey to remembrance and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Journey to Remembrance is currently on loan and being displayed by the hallway to the Founder's Gallery at The Military Museums of Calgary.
