Little Creatures includes the bustling visitors I've come across in my garden and the Foothills region. The Bees in My Backyard is a huge part of this series presently. These art pieces were inspired by the beautiful buzzing community in my backyard over the summer. These small but important creatures are wonderful to watch.

I know marigolds do not attract insects. While brainstorming a title for this piece, I read that bees wouldn't like them either. Hmmm....funny my marigold seemed to attract this guy! I love the brilliant colours shining from this scene - painting it was a joy.

As I observed the bees in my garden over the summer, I was fascinated how close they let me observe them. I was also quite amazed how many different types that visited my yard. This busy guy was zooming all over my peony collecting as much as he could.

The delphiniums in my yard were alive with the hum of the bees most days during the summer. I was surprised to often see them vying for the same bloom then quickly swerving off to find another one that was free.

Now how adorable is this little bee? With his cute antenna and his quick humming wings? He really did remind me of a teddy bear.
Indigo Inspiration
The amazing blue of the beautiful butterfly bouncing off these bright yellow wild flowers inspired me while hiking over 8 years ago and then again when my daughter chose a similar image on an oracle card this past year. I knew it was time to do something with it! The butterfly speaks of transformation, creativity and freedom while the yellow flowers depict friendship, compassion, trust and respect.
This particular butterfly featured in Indigo Inspiration has a piece of its wing missing; however, butterflies are not as fragile and dainty as they seem to be. Although their wings and scale do not regrow, they can fly with pieces of their wings missing!
